Gerd von Rundstedt

Karl Rudolf Gerd von Rundstedt (12 Disember 1875 – 24 Februari 1953) adalah seorang Fil Marsyal (Generalfeldmarschall) Jerman yang terkenal semasa Perang Dunia Kedua. Beliau merupakan contoh terbaik bagi kumpulan pegawai Prusia lama, oleh sebab itu digelar Der Alte Herr, "Tuan Yang Tua"; beliau seorang yang tenang, jujur, setia dan gemar berjenaka secara sinis; kebolehan beliau sebagai komander ialah berdasarkan kesempurnaan dan fleksibiliti, digabungkan dengan kemahiran taktikal dan strategik. Rundstedt menjadi salah seorang dari 12 Jeneral yang dinaikkan pangkat dalam Upacara Fil Marsyal 1940 dan merupakan pegawai kanan ke-3 dalam senioriti Tentera Darat Jerman.

Dilahirkan dalam sebuah keluarga bangsawan Prusia lama dengan sejarah ketenteraan yang panjang, Rundstedt menyertai Tentera Darat Imperial Jerman pada tahun 1892 dan naik mengikut susunan pangkat sehingga Perang Dunia Pertama, yang mana beliau bertugas sepenuhnya sebagai seorang pegawai staf. Semasa tahun antara perang, beliau meneruskan kerjaya tenteranya, mencapai pangkat Kolonel Jeneral (Generaloberst) sebelum bersara pada tahun 1938. Beliau juga adalah seorang jurubahasa Perancis yang berkelayakan.

Beliau dipanggil semula bertugas pada permulaan Perang Dunia Kedua sebagai Panglima Kumpulan Tentera Darat Selatan semasa kempen Poland. Beliau memerintah Kumpulan Tentera Darat A semasa pencerobohan Jerman keatas Perancis, dan telah dinaikkan pangkat ke Fil Marsyal pada 19 Julai 1940. Di dalam Kempen Rusia, beliau memerintah Kumpulan Tentera Darat Selatan, bertanggungjawab bagi pengepungan terbesar dalam sejarah, iaitu Pertempuran Kiev. Beliau telah dipecat oleh Adolf Hitler pada Disember 1941, selepas pengunduran Jerman dari Rostov, tetapi dipanggil semula pada tahun 1942 dan dilantik sebagai Panglima Tertinggi Barat Eropah (OB West).

Beliau telah dipecat sekali lagi selepas kekalahan Jerman di Normandy pada Julai 1944, tetapi sekali lagi dipanggil semula sebagai Panglima Tertinggi Barat pada September, memegang jawatan ini sehingga beliau dipecat oleh Hitler buat kali terakhir pada Mac 1945. Rundstedt menyedari pelbagai rancangan bagi menyingkirkan Hitler, tetapi enggan menyokongnya. Selepas perang, beliau dituduh dengan jenayah perang tetapi tidak dibicarakan kerana faktor usia dan kesihatannya yang tidak baik. Beliau dibebaskan pada tahun 1949, dan meninggal dunia di Hanover pada tahun 1953.
