µTorrent (uTorrent) merupakan klien BitTorrent percuma oleh BitTorrent untuk Microsoft Windows yang ditulis dalam C++.[1] µTorrent direka untuk menggunakan sumber komputer minimum di samping menawarkan kefungsian setanding dengan klien BitTorrent yang lebih besar seperti Azureus atau BitComet.

Perisian tersebut telah menerima banyak maklum balas yang positif atas ciri-ciri, prestasi, kestabilan dan perkhidmatan untuk perkakasan keras yang lama dan versi-versi awal Windows. µTorrent telah dibangunkan secara aktif sejak pertama kali dikeluarkan pada tahun 2005. Lazimnya, nama µTorrent dipendekkan menjadi "µT" atau "uT".
Pada 7 Disember 2006, pembangun µTorrent Ludvig Strigeus dan BitTorrent, Inc. CEO Bram Cohen mengumumkan bahawa mereka telah menghakmilik µTorrent.[2] BitTorrent, Inc. telah menjadikan kod perisian tersebut sebagai asas kepada klien BitTorrent versi 6.0 sekaligus menjenamakan semula µTorrent.

Akibat perasaan tidak puas hati terhadap perisian remeh (perisian yang memakan memori komputer), Serge Paquet memberi cadangan kepada Ludvig Strigeus supaya beliau mencipta klien Bittorrent yang lebih efisien. Strigeus mula membuat konsep pembangunan perisian tersebut, di mana pada mulanya tidak termasuk menjadikan klien itu kaya dengan ciri-ciri. Setelah berusaha membangunkan perisian tersebut selama sebulan ketika musim luruh 2004 (binaan terawal bertarikh 17 Oktober, 2004, khususnya ketika masa terluang sebelum atau selepas waktu kerja, Strigeus berhenti menulis kod µTorrent selama setahun. Beliau menyambung kembali kerja pada 15 September 2005, dan tiga hari kemudian binaan pertama telah dikeluarkan untuk orang ramai sebagai perisian percuma dan mula menerima maklum balas.

In early versions, Strigeus had built in a web redirection via http://nanotorrent.com for search queries entered through the search bar that displayed advertisements in a frame on the web browser. Some users thought this suspicious because tracking could be implemented by recording the IP addresses of those downloading/receiving the advertisements, and the search functionality could easily be used to track user queries through whichever web-interface the client is going through to execute the search. After a short trial period, the advertising was disabled, mitigating possible concerns.[3]
A later version of the software has, instead of ads, a "search all sites" feature, which is a keyword-based search bar that delivers listings of torrent files at different trackers. A frame at the top displays advertisements (server-side) in the browser when the search function is used. In version 1.5, no ads are present in the program itself.
As of build 463, a redirect bypass feature became available in the Advanced options.

There's no data collected, it's just used to display ads for certain keywords ... It was used as a domain instead of being integrated into the client so the ad thing could be turned off later easily if the response to it was negative. Also, it may be used in the future to provide a "search all sites" feature.
