Chelodina, secara umum dikenali sebagai kura-kura leher ular. Genus kura-kura ini terdiri daripada pelbagai spesies dari keluarga Chelidae serta mempunyai sejarah penamaan taksa yang sangat rumit.[2] Walaupun sebelum ini, Macrochelodina dan Macrodiremys diasingkan sebagai genus lain, namun kini mereka disatukan di bawah subgenus Chelodina.[2]

Chelodina ialah sekumpulan kura-kura dari keluarga Chelidae yang berasal dari Australia, New Guinea, dan sebahagian Indonesia, iaitu Pulau Roti, dan Timor Timur. Kura-kura dari subgenus ini bersaiz kecil dan sederhana, memiliki karapas yang lonjong dan berleher sisi.

Macrochelodina merujuk kepada spesies kumpulan B Chelodina, atau berleher tebal. Subgenus ini dicadangkan pada tahun 1985 oleh Wells & Wellington (sebagai genus baru) namun tidak diiktiraf sehinggalah kini nama itu mula diterima dan dianggap sah. Mereka terdiri daripada kura-kura dari keluarga Chelidae dengan leher yang sangat panjang dan kepala rata. Menjadikan ikan sebagai diet, bersaiz sederhana dan besar seperti Chelodina (Macrochelodina) expansa yang mempunyai panjang sehingga 45cm.[3] Fosil pertama, Chelodina (Macrochelodina) alanrixi dijumpai berasal dari Queensland daripada zaman Eocene (Lapparent de Broin, F. de, & Molnar, R. E., 2001).[4]

Macrodiremys ialah genus monotip yang dikeluarkan daripada senarai Chelodina.[5] Satu-satunya ahli yang tinggal ialah Chelodina (Macrodiremys) colliei dari barat Australia.
