Summary sunting

A page from Katsuji Matsumoto's groundbreaking 16-page shōjo manga, Nazo no kurōbaa (?のクローバー, "The Mysterious Clover"), included as a premium in the April 1934 issue of the Japanese girls' magazine Shōjo no tomo (少女の友, "Girls' Friend"). Note the innovative use of bird's-eye views and variation in the size of panels, innovations that have long been mistakenly attributed to Osamu Tezuka, who was five years old when this was published. The size of the original image is a surprisingly large 22 x 30 cm, and the cover of the stapled leaflet is a sturdy cardboard. The cover is full color, and the interior pages are printed with black and red ink.

The uploader, Matt Thorn, scanned the image from a copy of the original in the collection of the International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka Prefecture. The copyright belongs to the estate of Katsuji Matsumoto, with whose permission this file has been uploaded.
