Gazetir ialah kamus atau direktori geografi yang digunakan bersama dengan peta atau atlas.[1] Gazetir biasanya mengandungi maklumat berkenaan dengan tokokan geografi, statistik sosial dan ciri fizik bagi sesebuah negara, rantau, atau benua. Kandungan gazetir boleh menyertakan lokasi subjek, dimensi puncak dan jalan air, populasi, KDNK dan kadar kenal huruf. Maklumat ini pada amnya dibahagikan kepada topik dengan entri yang tersenarai dalam urutan abjad.

Gazetir Yunani Purba diketahui telah wujud sejak era Keyunanian. Gazetir Cina pertama yang diketahui dikeluarkan menjelang abad ke-1, dan dengan zaman media cetak di China menjelang abad ke-9, ningrat Cina menjadi terlabur dalam pengeluaran gazetir untuk kawasan setempat sebagai sumber maklumat serta kebanggaan tempatan. Ahli geografi, Stephanus dari Bizantium, mengarang sebuah kamus geografi (yang semasa ini mempunyai bahagian hilang) pada abad ke-6 yang mempengaruhi penyusun Eropah yang kemudiannya. Gazetir moden boleh dijumpai dalam bahagian rujukan kebanyakan perpustakaan serta di Internet.
