Di Malaysia, Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) telah diiktiraf sebagai bahasa rasmi untuk Komuniti Pekak. Ianya telah mendapat persetujuan dari Ahli Dewan Rakyat dan termaktub dalam Akta OKU 2008.
