Selepas beliau maut dan berita jantung beliau tidak dimamah api pihak kerajaan Vietnam Selatan cuba merampas abu dan jantung beliau tetapi tidak berjaya. Pelbagai taktik digunakan kerajaan Ngô Đình Diệm untuk menghalang penganut Buddha dari bangkit mementang kerajaan. Gambar yang anda lihat diatas sekali ialah gambar yang diambil oleh Malcolm Browne dan ianya tersebar ke seluruh dunia dan menjadi simbol penentangan terhadap kerajaan Ngô Đình Diệm. Malcolm Browne sendiri memenangi anugerah Pulitzer dalam kategori Gambar Tahunan Terbaik
