The film is based on a real abandoned water theme park [[Mimaland]] on the hills of [[Gombak District|Ulu Gombak]], Kuala Lumpur. It opened in 1974 and used to be a popular tourist spot for almost 20 years. However, a tourist was killed while using the giant slide at the pool in 1993, and a minor landslide damaged the pool subsequently.<ref name=":0" />
Deemed unsafe to visitors, the park is forced to closed down in 1994.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=2020-09-22|title=Malaysian Director Says, 3 Crew Get Possessed While Filming " Miimaland"|url=http://redchili21.my/2020/09/malaysian-director-says-3-crew-get-possessed-while-filming-miimaland/|url-status=live|archive-url=|archive-date=|website=RedChili21 Malaysia|language=en-US}}</ref> There have been claims on supernatural incidents that happened at the park, making it one of the most popular local haunted places.<ref>{{Cite web|date=2018-08-03|title=6 Old Theme Parks in Malaysia That We Used to Visit Before They Shut Down|url=https://worldofbuzz.com/6-old-theme-parks-in-malaysia-that-we-used-to-visit-before-they-shut-down/|url-status=live|archive-url=|archive-date=|website=World of Buzz|language=en-US}}</ref>
