Anatolia juga melahirkan ramai tokoh sejarah seperti orang [[Hittite]], [[Greek]], [[Parsi]], [[Armenia]], [[Empayar Rom|Rom]], [[Goth]], [[Empayar Byzantine|Byzantine]] dan Turki. [[Empayar Rom]] dulunya mempunyai provinsi yang dipanggil Asia yang terletak di Anatolia atau Asia Kecil. Masyarakat kemudiannya mula memanggil keseluruhan benua ini sebagai Asia, lalu bahagian semenanjung (Anatolia) dipanggil Asia Kecil.
