Peter Jackson
Sir Peter Robert Jackson ONZ,[2][3] KNZM[4] (lahir pada 31 Oktober 1961) ialah pengarah filem, penerbit, pelakon, dan penulis skrip lakon layar dari New Zealand. Beliau dikenali dengan trilogi filem The Lord of the Rings (2001 hingga 2003) dan The Hobbit (2012 hingga 2014) adaptasi novel berjudul sama karya J. R. R. Tolkien.

Beliau mengasaskan syarikat kesan visual khas Weta Digital bersama Richard Taylor dan Jamie Selkirk.[5]
Biografi sunting
Awal hidup dan pendidikan sunting
Peter lahir di Wellington pada 31 October 1961[6]:25[7] kepada Joan Ruck,[6]:20[8] seorang pekerja kilang dan suri rumah dan serta William "Bill" Jackson, seorang kerani; dua-dua mereka imigran England.[9][10] Beliau dibesarkan di Teluk Pukerua.[11]
Beliau berminat terhadap seni filem melalui tontonan filem-filem Ray Harryhausen serta rancangan televisyen seperti Thunderbirds and Monty Python's Flying Circus. Beliau mula giat hobi membikin filem bersama rakan-rakannya setelah diberi hadiah suatu kamera Super 8 oleh seorang kenalan keluarganya.

Beliau membikin sebuah filem drama tahun 1994 berjudul Heavenly Creatures berdasarkan suatu kes pembunuhan yang dilakukan dua orang serakan di Christchurch terhadap ibu salah seorang mereka pada 1954.[12] Filem lakonan Melanie Lynskey dan Kate Winslet ini memenangi Singa Perak di Festival Filem Venezia serta suatu pencalonan Anugerah Akademi untuk kategori Lakon Layar Terbaik.[13] Syarikat Miramax turut mengambil perhatian karya ini dengan mengedarkan dan mempromosikan filem ini di AMerika Syarikat.[14]
