Arthur Compton

Arthur Holly Compton (10 September 1892 - 15 Mac 1962) ialah seorang ahli fizik Amerika yang memenangi Hadiah Nobel dalam Fizik pada tahun 1927 untuk penemuannya pada tahun 1923 tentang kesan Compton, yang menunjukkan sifat zarah radiasi elektromagnet. Ia merupakan penemuan sensasi pada masa itu: sifat gelombang cahaya telah ditunjukkan dengan baik, tetapi idea bahawa cahaya mempunyai kedua-dua sifat gelombang dan zarah tidak mudah diterima. Beliau juga terkenal dengan kepemimpinannya di Laboratorium Metallurgical Project Manhattan di Universiti Chicago, dan berkhidmat sebagai Canselor Universiti Washington di St. Louis dari tahun 1945 hingga 1953.
