Kriptozoologi

Kriptozoologi ialah pseudosains dan subbudaya yang bertujuan untuk membuktikan kewujudan entiti dari rekod cerita rakyat, seperti Bigfoot, chupacabra, atau Mokele-mbembe. Ahli kriptozoologi merujuk kepada entiti ini sebagai cryptids, istilah yang dicipta oleh subkultur. Kerana ia tidak mengikuti kaedah saintifik, kriptozoologi dianggap sebagai pseudosains oleh dunia akademik: ia bukan cawangan zoologi atau folkloristik. Ia pada asalnya diasaskan pada tahun 1950 oleh ahli zoologi Bernard Heuvelmans dan Ivan T. Sanderson.

Para ilmuwan telah memperhatikan bahawa pseudosains menolak pendekatan arus perdana dari tarikh awal, dan penganut-penganut itu sering menyatakan permusuhan untuk arus perdana. Para ulama telah mengkaji kriptozoologist dan pengaruh mereka (termasuk persatuan pseudosains dengan Kreasionismisme muda), dan telah mencatat persamaan dalam kriptozoologi dan pseudosains lain seperti memburu dan ufologi hantu.
