Background of the Establishment of the Manjung Municipal Council

Established on January 1, 1980 - known as Majlis Dearah Manjung . Upgraded to the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) as per the Perak State Government Gazette on 1 August 2001.

Jurisdiction Extension Gazette

The Council of Ministers meeting on 16 May 2012 agreed to expand MPM's operational area to cover the entire Manjung District. The expansion of this Council area was gazetted on 4 December 2024 (Gazette No.: 3115/Gazette Plan No. PW3734 and PW2124)

MPM Function sunting

  • Responsible for administering the Council area which is the towns and surrounding areas gazetted under the Local Government Act 1976.
  • Responsible for collecting annual revenue as well as trying to increase the amount of annual revenue through new sources of revenue.
  • Establishing good relations with all parties (customers, tax payment and others) that will be directly or indirectly related in the context of achieving the goals and objectives of the Council.
  • Planning and implementing efficient and quality municipal services to meet the needs of community life towards creating a pleasant environment.
  • Responsible for administering the Council area through control over business and industrial activities and creating a conducive environment to attract more investment.
  • Controlling, planning and approving physical development in accordance with the requirements of the Structural Plan and Local Plan.
  • Planning and implementing the development of the Manjung Municipal Council area with a focus on development that is oriented towards environmental preservation and creating a balanced and harmonious urban society.

Resident Information sunting

The number of residents in 2022 in Manjung District is the third highest in the State of Perak which is 256,000 residents ahead of other districts in the State of Perak. This shows the great potential of this district to develop more advanced and faster if there is planning and implementation of development that is in line with the actual niche and capacity.
