Ditubuhkan pada tahun 1880 sebagai West Gorton (St. Marks), kemudian bertukar nama kepada Ardwick A.F.C. pada tahun 1887, dan seterusnya ditukar sekali lagi kepada nama Manchester City F.C. pada tahun 1894. Gelanggang kelab ini ialah Stadium ''City of Manchester'' yang mampu menampung sehingga 47,726 penonton.
