Johnny Hallyday

Jean-Philippe Léo Smet (15 Jun 1943 – 6 Disember 2017) atau juga lebih dikenali dengan nama pentasnya Johnny Hallyday, merupakan seorang penyanyi dan pemuzik Perancis,[2][3][4] beliau mengkhusus dalam genre rock & roll serta pop.

Sepanjang kerjayanya, beliau telah melakukan sebanyak 181 buah konsert persembahan, meraih 18 album platinum serta berjaya menjual lebih dari 110 juta album rakamannya seluruh dunia[5] lalu diiktiraf sebagai antara artis yang paling laris sepanjang hayat.[6][7] Beliau seringkali dijolok setaraf Elvis Presley di Perancis,[8][9] namun kemasyhurannya tidak begitu diketahui luar lingkungan penutur bahasa Perancis sehingga kurang dipedulikan media massa sedunia (yang lazim berbahasa Inggeris).[10][11][12]

Awal hidup sunting

Jean-Philippe Léo Smet[13] lahir di sebuah klinik di arrondissement ke-9 kota Paris pada 15 Jun 1943.[14] Beliau anak hasil perkawhinan Huguette Galmiche (1920-2007), seorang pekerja kilang tenusu[15] dan Léon Smet (1908-1989), seorang seniman kabaret dari Belgium di bawah nama "Jean Michel" - Léon dikenali mempunyai masalah ketagihan minum arak pada kerjayanya.[16][17][18]

Senja hidup sunting

Beliau meninggal dunia pada jam 10:10 malam hari 5 Disember 2017[19]pada usia 74 tahun tidak lama selepas dimasukkan ke hospital di Hauts-de-Seine untuk merawat barah paru-paru.[20][21][22].

Khabar mengenai pemergian beliau ada mendapat perhatian seberapa artis ternama dari Celine Dion, Patrick Bruel, Omar Sy hingga ke Lenny Kravitz.[23] Presiden Republik Perancis Emmanuel Macron sendiri memberikan sepatah dua kata belasungkawa memperingati jasa Halliday kepada industri hiburan Perancis.[24]. Berita ini turut mendapat perhatian media alam bahasa Inggeris seperti The New York Times dan CNN.[25][26].
