Kerabat Lancaster
Kerabat Lancaster merujuk kepada dua cabang kadet daripada keluarga diraja kerabat Plantagenet. Kadet pertama wujud apabila Henry III dari England mengasaskan Earldom dari Lancaster—yang mana bersempena dengan nama—anak lelaki kedua beliau Edmund Crouchback pada tahun 1267. Edmund telah menjadi Earl dari Leicester pada tahun 1265 dan dianugerahkan tanah dan keistimewaan ke atas Simon de Montfort, Earl Leicester ke-6, selepas kematian de Montfort dan memenangi Perang Baron Kedua.[2] Apabila anak lelaki Edmund, Thomas, Earl Lancaster Kedua, mewarisi ladang bapa mertua beliau dan gelaran Earl dari Lincoln, beliau menjadi bangsawan paling berkuasa di England, dengan tanah di seluruh negara dan keupayaan untuk membiayai tentera persendirian bagi mendapat kuasa di peringkat negara dan tempatan.[3] Ini menjadikan beliau—dan Henry, adik lelaki beliau—terlibat dalam konflik dengan sepupu mereka iaitu Edward II dari England, menyebabkan pembunuhan Thomas. Henry kemudian mewarisi gelaran Thomas dan beliau serta anak lelaki beliau, yang juga dikenali dengan Henry, memberi khidmat setia kepada anak lelaki Edward—Edward III dari England.
