Middleton bertemu dengan bakal isterinya Carole ketika mereka bekerja untuk British Airways (BA) sebagai kru darat.[28] Menjelang 1979, beliau dinaikkan pangkat sebagai penghantar pesawat, salah satu daripada British Airways ' Red Caps,[29] di Lapangan Terbang Heathrow London. It was this Gledhow Lane house that was occupied by William Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s ancestor. Shortly after 1870, Middleton changed the name of his house [Gledhow Grange] to Hawkhills.
